AIEEE, or the All India Engineering Entrance Examination, was an entrance exam for various undergraduate engineering programs in India. It was conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). However, AIEEE has been replaced by the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) from 2013, which is now the primary entrance exam for engineering colleges in India, including the National Institutes of Technology (NITs) and other participating institutions.
Key Points about AIEEE (Before it was replaced):
- Purpose: AIEEE was used to select students for undergraduate engineering courses in various colleges across India.
- Exam Structure: The exam typically consisted of two papers—one for Physics and Chemistry and another for Mathematics.
- Eligibility: Candidates who had completed their 10+2 education with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics were eligible to apply.
- Exam Format: It included multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and was conducted in a pen-and-paper format.
- Score and Counseling: Students were ranked based on their performance, and admissions were conducted through a centralized counseling process.
Transition to JEE:
- JEE Main and JEE Advanced: The JEE system includes JEE Main, which serves as the entrance exam for NITs and other colleges, and JEE Advanced, which is for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
- Syllabus and Format: The syllabus largely remains similar, focusing on Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, but the format and structure have been updated to better assess students’ understanding.
